Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government written ministerial statement on Building Safety

On Monday 02 September 2024 the Minister for Building Safety and Homelessness issued a written Ministerial Statement on building safety. The main points are outlined below.

- Revoking the previously stated deadline of 30 June 2025 the recognition of CE marking, therefore CE marking will be accepted past 30th June 2025 in Great Britain.
- The government has committed to system wide construction product regulatory reform.
- UKCA marking will remain a valid and accepted regulatory mark.
- The government will explore the long-term future of CE/UKCA marking as part of this regulatory reform with any subsequent changes to the recognition of CE marking would be subject to a minimum 2-year transitional period.
- The withdrawal of the National fire testing standards from Approved Document B for both reaction to fire, with a transition period of six months, and fire resistance with transition period of five years.
- The provision of sprinklers in all new care homes.
The 2029 amendment document continues to permit the use of assessments of fire resistance for internal doorsets until such time as a relevant harmonised product standard is published.
